How much range does it add per hour?
Estimate: miles per hour of charging = charger kW ÷ the car's EPA electricity use (kWh per 100 miles, measured at the wall) × 100. Only valid if the car's onboard charger accepts 11.52 kW; many EVs accept 7–11.5 kW on AC, so a bigger charger won't charge them faster.
| EV (median-efficiency trim) | Range added per hour | Est. hours, empty to full EPA range |
|---|---|---|
| Tesla Model Y (Model Y Standard AWD, 26.5 kWh/100 mi) | 43 mi | 6.8 h |
| Tesla Model 3 (Model 3 Performance, 29.6 kWh/100 mi) | 39 mi | 7.9 h |
| Chevrolet Equinox EV (Equinox EV AWD (11 kW Charger), 32.6 kWh/100 mi) | 35 mi | 8.7 h |
| Ford F-150 Lightning (F-150 Lightning 4WD PRO ER1, 47.9 kWh/100 mi) | 24 mi | 13.3 h |
| Hyundai Ioniq 5 (Ioniq 5 AWD (20inch Wheels), 34.5 kWh/100 mi) | 33 mi | 8.1 h |
| Ford Mustang Mach-E (Mustang Mach-E AWD, 33.6 kWh/100 mi) | 34 mi | 7.0 h |
| Kia EV9 (EV9 Long Range AWD GT-Line, 41 kWh/100 mi) | 28 mi | 10.0 h |
| Rivian R1S (R1S Premium Long Range (20in AT), 43.2 kWh/100 mi) | 27 mi | 13.9 h |

Circuit and breaker
At 48 A continuous, the circuit typically needs to be rated for at least 125% of the charger's load: 60 A, which usually means a 60 A breaker (estimate based on the NEC continuous-load rule; your electrician and local code decide). Many chargers can be set to a lower current for smaller circuits.
Standby electricity
With no car connected it draws 4.64 W; with a car connected but not charging, 9.72 W. If left in no-vehicle mode all year, that is at most about 41 kWh/yr ≈ $7.44 at the U.S. average rate (estimate).
