How much range does it add per hour?

Estimate: miles per hour of charging = charger kW ÷ the car's EPA electricity use (kWh per 100 miles, measured at the wall) × 100. Only valid if the car's onboard charger accepts 11.52 kW; many EVs accept 7–11.5 kW on AC, so a bigger charger won't charge them faster.

Circuit and breaker

At 48 A continuous, the circuit typically needs to be rated for at least 125% of the charger's load: 60 A, which usually means a 60 A breaker (estimate based on the NEC continuous-load rule; your electrician and local code decide). Many chargers can be set to a lower current for smaller circuits.

Standby electricity

With no car connected it draws 1.7 W; with a car connected but not charging, 2.4 W. If left in no-vehicle mode all year, that is at most about 15 kWh/yr ≈ $2.73 at the U.S. average rate (estimate).

*Estimate: ENERGY STAR "no vehicle mode" input power × 8,760 h, i.e. the most it could use in a year if no car were ever plugged in, × U.S. average residential rate 18.31¢/kWh (EIA, July 2026 (preliminary)).
